Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts belongs to the fourth generation of Robertses to live in the Atlanta area, starting in the family of her grand-father John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father was a theatre enthusiast from a very young age. While he was a pupil studying at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he was a part of numerous productions. In 1953, he joined the Air Force. While stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he acted in a show that he performed in with Betty Lou Bredemus. They got married in the year 1955 and the couple's first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter went to Tulane University at New Orleans in the year 1957, after the couple had left the Air Force of the United States. Walter started working at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter as well as Betty Lou began producing a children's TV show in the city of Decatur, Georgia titled Bum Bum and His Buddies. They financed the production themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was established in 1964 and lasted for six years. Lelisa Billingsley who is also referred to as Lisa was born in the year 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
